Dollar Soars Dramatically Against the Yemeni Rial in Aden
The selling price of the US dollar surged significantly against the Yemeni rial on Saturday, creating a new shock for citizens in the city of Aden, which is under the control of the US-Saudi coalition, due to the ongoing economic collapse in the southern provinces.
Banking sources in the city reported that the selling price of the US dollar reached 1594 Yemeni rials, an increase of 50 rials since last Tuesday.
They indicated that the Saudi riyal increased by 10 riyals against the Yemeni rial over the past three days, reaching a selling price of 419 Yemeni rials.
The sources attributed the rise in foreign currency prices to the failure of the Saudi-backed government to take any economic measures to maintain the local currency’s value due to the printing of nearly 6 trillion Yemeni rials without cash cover in recent years.
The economic collapse has impacted the living conditions of citizens in Aden and other southern provinces, reaching a point where the government is unable to pay teachers’ salaries for the last month in Aden.
