Al-Murtadha: Prisoner Exchange Deal Stalled Due to US-Saudi Aggression

Abdulqader Al-Murtadha, the head of the National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs, has confirmed that the prisoner exchange deal signed in Switzerland has reached a standstill due to the lack of seriousness on the part of the US-Saudi aggression.

“We agreed to the request of the mercenaries in Marib to disclose the fate of Qahtan and include him in the deal, but they refused to disclose the fate of our prisoners or allow visits to the prisons in Marib,” he stated.

Al-Murtadha also emphasized that Sana’a continues to hold Saudi and Sudanese prisoners and is prepared to engage in a comprehensive agreement that involves prisoners from all parties.

He stressed that it is not feasible to negotiate a bilateral deal with the Saudi party, as it bears primary responsibility for the aggression against Yemen.

On May 19, Abdulqadir Al-Murtada, the head of the Prisoners Affairs Committee, confirmed that visits to prisons that were agreed upon with the UN have been indefinitely postponed.

“The committee was ready to conduct prison visits in accordance with the UN’s arrangements, but we were taken aback by new conditions imposed by US-Saudi mercenaries, leading to the indefinite postponement of the visits,” he explained.

Al-Murtada pointed out that these clear obstacles are intended to obstruct the upcoming round of negotiations, and he called on the UN to intervene and put an end to these hindrances.
