Industry minister visits number of pharmaceutical factories in Sana’a

Minister of Industry and Trade Mohammad al-Mutahhar on Tuesday visited a number of pharmaceutical factories in the capital Sana’a.

The Minister listened to an explanation about the progress of the production process and plans for development and expansion in those factories.

Minister al-Mutahhar explained that the visit aims to closely examine the reality of the pharmaceutical industries and growth and development plans in preparation for developing a strategy for the localization of the pharmaceutical industries according to the directives of His Excellency Field Marshal Mahdi Al-Mashat, President of the Supreme Political Council, and vice versa in Chronic operation plans in cooperation with the Ministry of Health.

He stressed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade will provide all facilities and aspects of support and assistance to the local pharmaceutical industries and provide them with all means of success, calling on medicines import companies to move towards local production and benefit from promising investment opportunities in this sector, as well as investment advantages and incentives.

The Minister of Industry and Trade stressed the importance of moving towards the pharmaceutical industry based on local raw materials and benefiting from the great plant diversity in Yemen that provides rare medicinal herbs.

For his part, the Undersecretary for the Industry Sector explained that the field visits to pharmaceutical factories come within the framework of a work program for the Ministry’s leadership to translate the directives of the political leadership to localize the pharmaceutical industries by coordinating efforts with the private sector to encourage investments in the local pharmaceutical industries and enhance their role to meet the needs of the local market.

Head of the Yemeni Federation of Pharmaceutical Producers Ehsan al-Rabahi indicated that the rapid and successive moves of the leadership of the Ministry of Industry and Trade confirm the seriousness in directing towards the localization of the pharmaceutical industries.

He stressed that the industrial sector has capabilities to achieve the desired progress in cooperation with the government side and that the union is keen to enhance cooperation and partnership with the Ministries of Industry and Trade and Public Health to achieve a renaissance in the pharmaceutical industries in Yemen.
