UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen Calls for Prosecution of Perpetrators of Assassination of Aid Worker
The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, David Gresley, has called for the prosecution of the perpetrators of the assassination of an UN aid worker.
The head of the World Food Program team in Taiz, Moayad Hamidi – Jordanian, was assassinated by gunmen in the Turbah area, which is under the control of the US-Saudi mercenaries, on the 21st of last July.
“These incidents are a strong testament to the challenges and risks faced by humanitarian actors in Yemen,” Gresley said.
He stressed the need not to endanger the safety and security of relief workers, noting that it is important not to impede the movement of relief workers, especially female workers.
The Saudi-backed government which controls the Turbah area in Taiz did not provide any explanations to the local and international public opinion about the facts of the assassination of the UN official, although it had announced that it would present to the public the details of the assassination of Moayad Hamidi.
Southern governorates are witnessing security chaos, and almost daily crimes, under the control of the forces of US-Saudi aggression and Saudi-Emirati occupation. In addition to kidnapping, bombings and clashes between militants fighting for influence, people in southern Yemen witness an increase in the number of assassinations involving military personnel, security leaders, religious and social figures.
