Sanaa calls for holding Eritrea accountable for its violations against fishermen
Ministry of Fisheries in Sanaa called on the international community to take a clear and frank stance to hold the Eritrean authorities accountable for their aggressive actions against Yemen’s fishermen in the territorial waters.
In a news statement, the ministry affirmed that Yemen will strongly defend its people and protect its territorial waters.
The statement denounced the attack on a number of Yemeni fishermen by the Eritrean forces during a fishing trip in Yemeni territorial waters.
The ministry stated that Malik Muhammad Abdullah Jerd, one of the fisherman, residing in Al-Khawkhah district of Hodeida, was wounded by a gunshot in his eyes, while his six companions were forcibly detained in Eritrean prisons.
It considered the Eritrean maritime piracy and its blatant attacks against Yemeni fishermen a flagrant violation of international and humanitarian law.
