Ministry of Fisheries Condemns Eritrea’s Continued Abductions of Yemeni Fishermen
The Ministry of Fisheries condemned on Tuesday the continuing violations and abductions of Yemeni fishermen in Yemeni territorial waters by Eritrean forces.
In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), the Ministry explained that the General Authority for Fisheries in the Red Sea has recorded more than 7,000 abductions of Yemeni fishermen in Yemeni territorial waters and the Red Sea since the start of the aggression against Yemen in 2015.
The Ministry of Fisheries disclosed the abduction of a thousand and 632 Yemeni fishermen over the past two years.
It pointed out that the kidnappers plunder the boats of the kidnapped fishermen, in addition to subjecting them to various types of abuse and torture, and they are detained without release for long periods in violation of international norms and conventions, and this represents a flagrant violation of human rights.
The Ministry affirmed that such actions are a flagrant and arbitrary violation of human rights, and target the elements of security in the Red Sea and prevent fishermen from earning their livelihood in Yemeni territorial waters.
