Arrival 104 Yemeni detainees deported from Saudi Arabia

Three ICRC planes arrived at the international airports of Sana’a and Aden, carrying 104 Yemeni detainees who were deported from Saudi Arabia.

They were received by Minister of Human Rights Ali Al-Dailami, Deputy Minister of Expatriate Affairs Zayed Al-Riyami, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Yemeni News Agency Saba – Editor-in-Chief Nasr Al-Din Amer.

Al-Dailami welcomed the deported Yemeni expatriates in their homeland and among their brothers. He said, “Praise be to God for your safety, and welcome to your land and homeland, especially after we listened to many complaints, tragic stories and the suffering that you were subjected to in prisons.”

He confirmed in a press conference at Sana’a International Airport that those who arrived today were kidnapped from their work at oil stations while grazing sheep and other places where they are in Saudi Arabia, and others were kidnapped from the Yemeni-Saudi border while performing Hajj.

Al-Dailami stated that the deported detainees were in the absence of Saudi prisons, including those who stayed in prison for nearly 14 years without any clear charge.

He added, “Our brothers, the deported detainees, were subjected to various types of torture, including suspension, the use of cables and electricity. Traces of torture are still present, in addition to reducing the amount of water and food.”

Al-Dailami also affirmed that “between us and Saudi Arabia are signed and renewed bilateral agreements that contain privileges for Yemeni expatriates, preserving dignity, life, and non-torture of human beings, as well as international agreements on human rights.”

He pointed out, “There are still missing Yemenis in Saudi prisons that no one knows about, not to mention those who died as a result of torture. There are names of those who died in Saudi prisons, and these measures are contrary to religion, customs and international laws.”

During the conference, stories of cases of a number of deported detainees, the method of their abduction, the investigation process, and the type of torture they received in Saudi prisons were presented.
