Death toll in Gabon ferry disaster rises to 24

The death toll in the ferry disaster off the coast of Gabon last Thursday has risen to 24, the Rescue Operations Coordination announced.

A total of 124 passengers out of 161 were rescued, rescue teams said.

The ship, carrying passengers and cargo, was on a voyage between Libreville and Port-Gentil.

Investigations into the incident have been opened, and the government announced on Monday the suspension of four administrative officials as a precautionary measure.

The Public Prosecution also reported that people were placed under investigation and others arrested
