Int’l President of MSF arrives in Yemen
The International President of Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), Dr. Christos Christou, arrived on Wednesday in Yemen.
The MSF said in a statement on Twitter that “Christos’ visit to Yemen comes to see the MSF’s projects, and to know the main health and humanitarian needs of the patients supported by the organization.
“Christos will discuss with the Yemeni authorities in Sanaa, and the local authorities in Aden loyl to the Saudi-led coalition in “Aden”, ways to enhance better cooperation to overcome the main challenges facing the organization in order to provide humanitarian assistance,” the statement added.
The MSF intervened in Yemen in 1986, and has been present continuously since 2007. Its current teams work in 12 hospitals and provided support to more than 16 health facilities in 12 Yemeni provinces, according to the statement.
The “Doctors Without Borders” teams were subjected to a number of attacks and assaults in the areas under the control of the militants of the coalition. One of its workers was killed in Lahj in October 2021, and a number of its workers were kidnapped on Marib-Hadramout road during March 2022.
