Fire breaks out in IDP camp in Marib

A huge fire broke out on Friday evening in one of the internally displaced persons (IDP)’s camps in the city of Marib, northeastern Yemen.

Local sources said that the fire broke out in the “Al-Ghawiyah” camp for displaced people in Wadi Kabir district.

According to the sources, the fire engulfed  5 houses, due to the delay in the arrival of the civil defense team and the lack of security and safety means in the camps.

From time to time, IDP camps in Marib governorate and the rest of the governorates under the control of the Saudi-led coalition forces are exposed to multiple fires, causing material and human losses, the latest of which was on February 8 in Al-Ramsa camp in Marib.

The fire engulfed tents for four displaced families from Bani Dbayan and completely destroyed their contents.

It is worth noting that the IDP camps have witnessed during the past 10 months 54 fires due to negligence and lack of security and safety means, which led to the death and injury of dozens of displaced people, according to a previous statement by pro-coalition government .
