Death toll climbs to 35,000 people in Turkey-Syria earthquake

The death toll from the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria passed 35,000 on Sunday across both countries.

In Syria, the Minister of Health said the death toll from the earthquake had risen to 1,408 people.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Civil Defense in the areas under the control of terrorists in the northwest of the country counted 2,167 deaths.

“There is probably as many as 7,000 because there are so many missing people under the rubble and their fate is unknown.”

In Turkey, the country’s disaster and emergency management authority said the death toll from the devastating earthquakes has climbed to 29,605.

According to the authority, as many as 147,934 people have been evacuated from quake-hit areas to other Turkish provinces.

A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake rocked Turkey’s Kahramanmaras province, located in the country’s southeast, on February 6.

The tremors, followed by hundreds of aftershocks, were felt in ten provinces as well as in neighboring countries, including Syria.
