Sanaa holds WHO responsible for imminent health disaster in Yemen
The Yemeni Ministry of Public Health on Thursday expressed its shock at the World Health Organization (WHO)’s renunciation of its responsibilities towards patients with kidney failure, which will endanger their lives.
The Health Ministry stated, in a letter to the organization, that the UN’s organization disavows its responsibility towards patients with kidney failure, after a year of official calls for providing patients with medical needs.
In its letter, the ministry said, “The World Health Organization knows that Yemen is a country under siege and does not have the financial resources to face the catastrophic depletion of stocks of medicines and solutions for kidney failure.”
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Health for the therapeutic medicine sector, Dr. Ali Jahaf, explained that the ministry has little stock in dialysis centers, which may not suffice until next March.
“If the ministry does not receive any emergency supplies during this February, we are facing a catastrophe that threatens the lives of patients with kidney failure,” Dr. Jahaf said.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Health, Dr. Anis Al-Asbahi, announced that the World Health Organization contributes to increasing the suffering of patients by ignoring the suffering of patients with kidney failure.
