Fisheries condemns conversion of fish landing center in Abyan into military barracks
The Ministry of Fisheries condemned on Thursday the attacks on fishermen by Emirati forces and mercenaries of its so-called Security Belt in Abyan province.
The ministry said in a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) a copy of it, that these armed factions yesterday terrorized fishermen by firing live bullets and expelled them from the landing center in Abyan in a way that reflects the level of criminality.
The statement confirmed the involvement of mercenaries of the so-called Security Belt and Emirati forces in converting the fish landing center in the Al-Matla’ Balkwd area in Khanfar district into a military barracks for the benefit of the American and British forces and deprived thousands of fishermen of their livelihood and displaced to other fishing grounds in Abyan, Aden and Shabwa.
He pointed out that the Emirati forces and their mercenaries expelled the fishermen and prevented them from approaching the center after surrounding it with a number of bulldozers and military crews and using the building as the headquarters of the hostile occupation forces.
The ministry pointed out that this step comes in the context of the UAE’s expansionist ambitions to control the areas bordering the Arabian Sea, the Gulf of Aden, the southern regions of the Red Sea and the northern Indian Ocean.
The statement called on the international community, the United Nations and human rights organizations to take a firm stance and pressure the Emirati forces and mercenaries to evacuate the fish landing center.
