The death toll from Friday’s landslide at an unauthorized campsite in Malaysia has risen to 25, including eight children, authorities said Tuesday.
On Tuesday night, the remains of a young girl were recovered, officials said. Search teams continue to comb the muddy soil to find eight people still missing.
Reports added that about 680 personnel from various agencies led by the fire and rescue department and the police are involved in the rescue operations.
The landslide occurred near the town of Batang Kali, on the outskirts of the capital Kuala Lumpur.
According to officials, more than 90 people, most of them asleep, were on site at the time of the tragedy, not far from a mountain resort which notably houses a casino perched high up.
