FM meets United Nations Children’s Fund Executive Director
Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf met here on Tuesday with Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Catherine Russell and her accompanying delegation.
In the meeting, Sharaf stressed the importance of the visit of the Director of UNICEF to see the reality of the situation and the humanitarian catastrophe that the Yemeni people are suffering from, especially children, many of whom lost their lives either as a result of the aggression’s air raids or not receiving the necessary treatment or nutrition.
He also affirmed that Sana’a is working to provide facilities to the international organizations operating in Yemen, especially UNICEF, expressing hope that the organization will expand its programs in Yemen in line with the scale of the humanitarian disaster.
Sharaf stressed that ending the military aggression and lifting the comprehensive blockade are the bases for addressing the repercussions of the humanitarian catastrophe and reaching a comprehensive peace settlement.
For her part, Russell confirmed that the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Yemen is at the top of the organization’s work agenda in order to mitigate the effects of the humanitarian disaster in the country.
