FM: Behavior of Arab Monetary Fund does not serve interests of Yemeni people
Foreign Minister Eng. Hisham Sharaf Abdullah confirmed on Tuesday that the agreement signed between the Arab Monetary Fund and the Government loyal to the aggression coalition states is part of a political propaganda move under the auspices of Saudi Arabia and does not serve the interests of the Republic and people of Yemen.
In a statement to SABA, the Minister considered the agreement to provide a loan of $1 billion with high interest, unacceptable and therefore one of the future obstacles to any consensual political arrangements or settlement in the post-aggression phase, in addition to the fact that the Republic of Yemen is not bound by it.
He explained that talking about the loan that comes to help the Yemeni people is irrelevant, because the Yemeni people’s assistance comes through supporting their national economy dealing with the current situation of deterioration of the local currency and the serious difficulties faced by Yemen owing to the military aggression and blockade since eight years.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs concluded his statement by inviting the Arab Monetary Fund, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and other regional and international financial institutions not to take additional unexamined steps and actions that do not take into account the reality of the political and economic situation and its possible remedies, but rather increase the repercussions of the Yemeni people’s humanitarian catastrophe.
