Four people killed due to gas leak at coal mine in Kazakhstan
At least four people were killed and four other injured due to a gas leak at a coal mine in the Karaganda region of Kazakhstan, the official representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations said.
According to preliminary data, on November 3 at 3 am (00:00 Moscow time) in the city of Shakhtinsk at the mine named after Lenin (Arcelor Mittal Temirtau JSC) there was a sudden release of gas, which led to the death of four workers, the search for another worker continues. The release occurred during the drilling of gas drainage wells, the official elaborated.
Four other employees were also injured. All of them are hospitalized, he said. After the incident, 106 employees were evacuated.
An investigation is currently under way to determine all the circumstances and causes of the incident, the ministry said, adding that a committee will be set up to investigate the accident.
