Hodeida.. Fisheries receives 69 fishermen held in Eritrean prisons
Red Sea General Fisheries Authority on Sunday evening received 69 fishermen who were being held in the Eritrean authorities’ prisons.
Returning fishermen were abducted by members of the Eritrean Navy from Yemen’s international territory or territorial waters; Their periods of detention varied from one to 4 months, all of them in hard labour.
According to the fishermen ‘ “, they were tortured and received only one meal a day that could not be served to a human being.
During the reception, Governor Mohammed Ayyash Qahim and First Governor of the Province, Ahmed Al-Beshri congratulated the fishermen released from Eritrea’s prisons by returning home. Stressing the local authority’s eagerness to alleviate their suffering and stand by them.
Governor Qahim quickly directed the operationalization of the fund to support returning fishermen and their families, as he directed the Fisheries Authority and the Zakat Authority Branch urgent disbursements to subsidize returning fishermen.
They were received by Assistant Governor Ali Al-Kabari, Director General of Ports and Fish Landing Centres, Aziz Al-Ateny.
