Europe discusses plan to bolster military support to Ukraine

At their regular meeting in Luxembourg on Monday, EU foreign ministers plan to bolster their military support for Ukraine, as well as approve a new tranche of financial aid for the Ukrainian military.

A senior European source told reporters in Brussels that the sixth tranche of EU military aid to Kiev from the EU would reach 500m euros, thus bringing the union’s total military aid to 3.1 billion euros.

These funds are allocated from the so-called European Peace Fund to EU countries to partially compensate for the costs of military supplies already delivered to Ukraine.

Also, a senior EU representative said the ministers will make a formal decision at the meeting on 17 October to launch an EU training mission for the Ukrainian military.

He announced that the training of the Ukrainian army could begin in mid-November, the project budget has already been decided.

The European representative added that the issue on which countries will participate in the project and who will send their trainers to work on the mission is currently underway.
