Omani-US talks on extending truce in Yemen

Omani Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr al-Busaidi and US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken on Saturday held talks and discussed efforts to extend the truce in the Republic of Yemen.

According to Oman’s Foreign Ministry, the two officials discussed during a phone call, “bilateral relations between the two countries, and consultation on a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The two sides affirmed their “support for the efforts being made to extend the truce in the Republic of Yemen, and the importance of joint action to enhance confidence and constructive dialogue between all parties.”

For its part, the US Department of State said , in a statement published on its website, that during the call, “the imminent end of the UN-brokered truce in Yemen, scheduled for Sunday, was discussed.”

The Secretary welcomed Oman’s commitment to extending the truce and its efforts to help secure an expansion of the truce, which would bring further life-saving relief to millions of Yemenis.

“This additional relief would include paying teachers, nurses, and other civil servants who have not been paid in years, expanding flights from Sana’a, opening roads in Taiz and elsewhere, and ensuring the continued flow of fuel,” according to the US department of State’s statement.
