ICRC’s support for Red Sea Ports Corporation discussed
CEO of the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation Mohammed Eshaq has discussed with Director of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Alexander Ekoy aspects of the support that the Committee that could provide for infrastructure development and rehabilitation projects.
The meeting reviewed the activities and tasks of the committee in the humanitarian field and the priorities of its interventions as required by the current situation.
Eshaq confirmed that the ports of the Corporation are still suffering from the consequences of the aggression and the siege, and the brutal and direct targeting of the port of Hodeida since18 Aug. 2015.
He pointed out that the aggression forces have still prevented container ships from entering the port since Nov. 2017 except for the ship belonging to the World Food Program.
Eshaq indicated that the port of Hodeida is able to receive container ships, but the blockade hinders it from providing its services in the required manner, noting the role of the service institution in facilitating and smoothing shipments arriving at its ports.
He pointed out that the Corporation is keen on facilitating the work of the Committee and overcoming the difficulties that it may encounter in carrying out the tasks entrusted to it to the fullest.
Eshaq expressed hope that the Corporation would receive the required support and funding at the Donors’ Conference for Yemen to be held on Sep. 20 as promised by the Humanitarian Coordinator.
For his part, Ekoy stressed that the committee will spare no effort in alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people, as a result of the great humanitarian crisis, pointing to the humanitarian interventions carried out by the committee.
