FM meets with UNICEF delegation

Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf met here on Wednesday with Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund “UNICEF” Hanan Omar Suleiman and the UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa Adele Khader, who are currently visiting Yemen.

In the meeting, Sharaf said that the Yemeni people have suffered from the repercussions of the humanitarian catastrophe created by the US-Saudi-Emirati aggression coalition in various regions of Yemen in conjunction with a comprehensive siege that directly affected all the people, especially children, who are among the most vulnerable groups.

Sharaf called on UNICEF to intensify its efforts to support the necessary humanitarian service projects in the fields of water, education and health to alleviate to some extent the humanitarian catastrophe repercussions that Yemen is going through as a result of the aggression and the siege.

The Foreign Minister called on the countries of the aggression coalition to seize the opportunity of the truce and the repeated calls from the leadership in Sana’a for peace.

In return, the UNICEF Deputy Executive Director said that the fragile humanitarian situation in Yemen is a top priority for UNICEF, which is working hard with donors to provide funds for the urgent humanitarian projects.
