10 death cases of monkeypox recorded in Congo, Nigeria
Health authorities in Congo have recorded 9 death cases of monkeypox and 465 infection cases people, bringing Congo’s highest incidence and death rate of monkeypox virus since its outbreak.
Nigeria’s health authorities announced on Monday that the country had recorded the first death of monkeypox and 21 new cases in the past 24 hours.
A death case has also been reported in Nigeria, the Washington Post reported.
Monkeypox, a mild viral infection, is endemic in the African countries of Cameroon, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Nigeria.
The recent outbreak in non-endemic countries has raised concerns after more than 200 suspected cases were detected and confirmed in at least 19 countries since early May 2022, mostly in Europe, and no deaths have been reported so far.
