First commercial flight from Sanaa International Airport takes off
The first commercial flight from Sanaa International Airport to Amman, Jordan, has taken off on Monday morning, marking the first time since 2015 that a commercial flight was able to fly to and from Sanaa, according to Al-Masirah Network.
The Yemenia Airways airplane arrived at 8:55 AM Sanaa time, at the airport of the Yemeni capital, carrying 150 passengers.
Soon afterwards, the plane left Sana’a International Airport carrying 151 passengers on board, most of them people in need of urgent medical treatment.
A Yemeni plane is expected to return to Sanaa International Airport at 4:30 PM this afternoon from Jordan, carrying Yemenis who had been stranded abroad.
The management of Sana’a International Airport confirmed that commercial flights will be organised in the coming days if they are not obstructed by coalition forces.
The flights come as part of the UN-brokered ceasefire agreement, but has been much delayed due to Saudi refusals to allow the air traffic to pass unhindered.
