Rise in fuel prices ignites popular revolution in Hadramout
The decision of the local authorities loyal to Saudi-led coalition in Hadramout province, eastern Yemen, to raise the prices of oil derivatives has ignited a spark of a popular revolution of anger in the province.
Local sources in Mukalla city said that the citizens protested against what they considered rising the fuel prices means imposing more burdens on citizens, in light of the economic crisis in the country.
The demonstrators chanted slogans demanding the exit of the coalition from Yemen, and the downfall of the “Hadi government.”
The petroleum company branch in Hadramout had decided yesterday, Thursday, to raise the price of a liter of gasoline to 1,200 riyals, within the efforts of the Hadi government to improve the economic situation, in light of the continued collapse of the local currency against foreign currencies.
