Gunmen kill 18 at mosque in northern Nigeria

Gunmen on motorcycles killed at least 18 people at a mosque in Nigeria’s northern state of Niger on Monday.

The attacker arrived in Mazakuka village in Mashegu local government area of the country’s Niger state, at around 5 a.m., Two Residents told Reuters.

“They came and went straight to the mosque and shot all the worshippers,” a resident named Abdul Ghani Hassan told Reuters.

Armed gangs working for money have kidnapped or killed hundreds across northwestern Nigeria this year, but Niger state and local officials have recently said that the radical Islamist group Boko Haram has captured multiple communities in the state, provided villagers with money and integrated them into their ranks to fight the government.
