6.5 magnitude earthquake strikes Taiwan
An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale hit northern Taiwan on Sunday, with no reports of casualties.
According to Reuters, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center said the quake struck at a depth of 40 kilometers (67 miles) southeast of Taipei.
No casualties, damage or tsunami risk were reported.
According to the island’s meteorological service, the earthquake occurred at 1:11 p.m. local time (0511 GMT).
It hit northeastern Yilan county at 1:11 pm (0511 GMT) at a depth of 67 kilometres (42 miles). It was felt throughout the island, the authority said, adding that the first earthquake was followed by a 5.4-magnitude tremor.
