5.6-magnitude quake hits New Guinea region

An earthquake measuring 5.6 Richter hit large parts of Papua New Guinea, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EOSC) said Sunday.

The earthquake was observed at 20:47 GMT (23:47 local time).

The epicenter is 156 kilometers east of Port Moresby, the country’s capital, at a depth of 40 kilometers.

No casualties have been reported.
