Sana’a Int. Airport is Run as UN Private Airport, for UN Staff
Sana’a International Airport Director Khaled Al-Shayef confirmed that more than 5,000 UN flights have landed at Sana’a International Airport since it was closed five years ago.
Al-Shayef said that most of the UN flights to Sana’a International Airport, since it was closed to civilian flights, came for the purposes of UN staff and their families.
He added: “No UN organization has allowed the boarding of any sick on its successive flights to Sana’a International Airport.”
He explained that one of United Nations organizations threatened to stop its activities in case the Ministry of Health insisted on forcing any cases on its trips abroad.
He noted that most of the international flights to Sana’a International Airport do not exceed the number of passengers, while its planes can accommodate dozens of passengers, and the planes are almost empty.
He pointed out that there are UN flights carrying food aid estimated at a a couple of kilograms, some humanitarian aid planes make their trips carrying only 10 kilograms of aid.
