Turkish authorities said Monday that 77 people have died as a result of torrential rains that cause flash floods in several towns of the country’s Black Sea provinces, and that emergency workers are continuing to search for 47 missing people.

Torrents brought chaos last week, with dozens of cars and piles of rubble washed through the streets, destroying buildings and bridges, blocking roads and damaging electricity infrastructure.

Sixty-two people died as a result of the floods in Kastamonu province.

According to the Department of Disaster and Emergency Control, 14 others died in Sinop and one was killed in Bartin province,

Forty-seven were missing in Kastamonu and Sinop provinces.

Aerial Footage  showed the significant damage to the town of Bozkurt in Kastamonu province, where rescue teams conducted searches under debris of  buildings earlier this week.

The Department indicated that more than 2,000 affected areas had been evacuated with the assistance of helicopters and boats.
