Brazil nears 20 million Covid-19 infections

Brazil’s Ministry of Health said Sunday that it has recorded 20,503 new infections  of Coronavirus (COVID-19) and 464 deaths in 24 hours.

The total number of COVID-19 infections in the South American country has reached 19.938 million since the outbreak of the epidemic, while the official death toll has reached 556834, according to ministry data.

Brazil currently has the third highest number of infections in the world, after the United States, India hold the second  rank  in the world in the number of deaths.

As the vaccination campaign progressed, the death rate fell in seven days to 932 last week, compared with nearly 3,000 at the height of the epidemic, according to Reuters.
