Germany says Coronavirus will get out of control

A senior aide to German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the government should seek to reduce the prevalence of COVID-19 infection in the next few weeks or risk the emergence of new vaccine-resistant strains.

“We are going through the most dangerous phase of the epidemic… The next few weeks will determine whether we will control it,” He said, according to Reuters.

If the number of cases increases rapidly again, the risk of the next new strain becoming vaccine-resistant increases, the German official added.

The number of  infections in Germany has increased sharply in recent weeks because of a faster-spreading strain and deregulation measures.

The number of confirmed cases on Saturday rose by 20,472 and 157 deaths, according to data from the Robert Koch Institute for Infectious Diseases.
