Aden witnesses wide protests against deterioration of services

The cycle of angry protests against the deterioration of services expanded on Monday evening in Aden province, south of Yemen, which is controlled by Hadi’s government loyal to Saudi-led coalition and the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militia.

Local sources said that angry protesters went out in the districts of Sheikh Othman, Crater, Al-Mansoura, Al-Buriqa, Enmaa, and Dar Saad, and closed a number of main streets, burned tires, and prevented the movement of cars.

The protesters denounced the power outages in all eight districts of Aden, as well as the lack of oil products and the insane rise in the prices of basic commodities.

Since Sunday dawn, there have been angry demonstrations in Aden to protest against the poor living conditions and the deterioration of services, especially electricity and water.

It is expected that congestion would increase in the various cities of the provinces, with the continuing problems in light of the inability of the government and the STC to develop solutions to address them.

Despite the return of Hadi’s government to Aden, on December 30, 2020, in implementation of the so-called “Riyadh agreement”, the STC militias still control the province, and the service and social conditions have not improved.
