Residents in Ahwar district denunce deterioration of security situation
Dozens of residents of Ahwar district in Abyan province, Southern Yemen, stage a protest on Friday, denouncing the continued deterioration of security situation in the directorate.
Participants in the protest explained that many innocent people lost their lives as a result of the widespread phenomenon of looting citizens’ properties on public roads, and the widespread of clashes in markets and communities.
They started to march in front of the house of Abubakar Mohammed al-Muallem, the assistant director of the post office in Ahawr, who was subjected to bandit attack last night by unidentified gunmen and looted more than three million riyals.
Protesters roamed the main streets of the directorate and chanted slogans against the local authority.
The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militias are taking control over Ahwar district after they expelled al-Islah militants in August 2019.
