Activists: UAE plans to create chaos in Mahrah
Activists from Mahrah said sheikh Abdullah bin Afarar’s visit to the city of Al-Ghaydah district threatens security and social peace among the province’s residents.
Activists on social media sites accused the UAE and Saudi Arabia of commissioning Abdullah bin Afarar, who was ousted from the General Council of Mahrah and Socotra, at the end of December, to create chaos in the province.
They pointed out that Abdullah bin Afarar was involved in the fall of Hadeboh, the capital of Socotra island, by UAE-backed southern Transitional Council (STC) militias in June 2020.
They explained that his recent return to Mahrah aims to make split between the people of the province, as happened in Socotra.
According to the activists, Abdullah bin Afarar is putting pressure on most of the Socotra and Mahrah sheikhs to recognize him as the president of the council.
At the end of December, sheikh Mohammed Abdullah bin Afarar was elected president of the General Council of the Sons of Mahrah and Socotra.
