80 Fishermen Release After 3 Day of Detention in Eritrea
The Director of Al-Salif district in Hodeidah governorate Abdul Rahim Al-Shami received 80 fishermen, after being released by the Eritrean authorities on Thursday.
The head of the General Authority for Fisheries in the Red Sea Engineer Hashim Al-Da’ani said that 37 fishermen arrived at the fish landing center in Al-Salif in a single boat out of a total of five boats, while the other four boats were confiscated with their contents.
“The other 43 fishermen were transported to Kabret Island and were taken back via boats of a group of fishermen,” he added.
The fishermen, who were detained for three days, were arrested from inside Yemeni territorial waters and taken to an Emirati boat on Hermel Island for interrogation, he said.
The head of the General Authority for Fisheries in the Red Sea condemned the exacerbation of piracy and attacks by the Eritrean authorities against fishermen on the Yemeni coasts.
He called on international organizations to assume legal and moral responsibility and put an end to the abusive practices against fishermen on the Yemeni coasts, who are being deprived of their source of income.
For their part, the released fishermen noted the interest of the leadership of the local authority and the General Authority for Fisheries in providing them with support and assistance.
