WHO: Yemen Faces Though Challenges Due to War, US-Saudi Aggression
The Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the Eastern Mediterranean region, Monday, confirmed that Yemen suffers from multiple challenges in the face of the Covid-19 virus pandemic due to the critical security situation in the country, which hinders the provision of support and assistance.
In a statement to the Russian news agency Sputnik, the organization’s regional director, Ahmed Al-Mandhari, said that Yemen suffers from multiple challenges due to the critical security situation and the ongoing conflict that impedes many support activities. These complications caused, for years, to impede health sector services and withhold supplies from some areas. The conditions of displacement and asylum make access to health services to those who need them difficult to a degree.
“Nevertheless, with the onset of the pandemic, we provided all the necessary supplies and materials to Yemen to help the health sector face the pandemic and strengthen the capacity of laboratories. However, the health sector still faces difficulties in monitoring cases of infection and conducting adequate tests. Therefore, many cases are not monitored and therefore the necessary care is not provided for them.”
“We continue to work with the concerned parties, and we hope that, with the support of the international community, we will be able to continue technical and health support to meet the needs of Yemen and its citizens, basic services while addressing the pandemic and the challenges it imposed”, Al-Mandhari said.
