Zakat Authority allocates 5 bln riyals for economic empowerment projects

The General Authority for Zakat has allocated five billion Yemeni riyals for economic empowerment projects that target productive families, craftsmen from the poor and needy in various province, the Authority’s Chairman Sheikch Shamsan Abu Nashtan said on Friday.

Sheikh Abu Nashtan explained that the empowerment projects come within the strategic plan of the authority during the next phase through contracting with a number of academies, specialized universities, technical and vocational institutes, to rehabilitate the sons of the poor in the fields of agriculture, livestock, fisheries, electricity and others.

He pointed out that the Zakat Authority signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Ministry of Technical Education and Vocational Training to train and rehabilitate a thousand trainees from the poor who are able to work for a period of three months as a first stage, followed by the rehabilitation of 5,000 trainees until 2021.

The authority would work also to allocate a number of hospitals and health centers to provide health care services to the poor and needy, he added.

“The authority’s future projects will be implemented in a decentralized manner,” he said, indicating that the authority is keen to return the Zakat of each province to its residents by at least 75 percent per month to cover the sections of poor and needy and the rest of Zakat sections throughout the year.

Abu Nashtan pointed out that the General Authority for Zakat has succeeded in completing dozens of projects during the past period despite the challenges in light of the continuing aggression and siege.
