Flood relief work continues in al-Marawe’ah district in Hodeidah
The Subcommittee on Disaster and Epidemiology in al-Marawe’ah district in Hodeidah province continues its activity in opening safe passages for rainwater and torrential rains in the district center, and the villages in the west part of the center in cooperation with the Branch of the General Corporation of Roads and Bridges and other concerned authorities.
The operation was carried out on the public street in al-Marawe’ah city in order to lift mud debris inside the market till al-Saelah area as well as discharge standing water in Bani Assad village.
Director of the district Abdullah al-Marwani said the relief work is continuing for those affected by the rains and floods, especially the residents of al-Masbar village, which was hardest hit by the disaster.
Al-Marwani valued the efforts carried out by the leadership of Hodeidah province and their concern in continuing to reach food aid to those affected quickly.
Last week, Siham valley swept through a number of villages and farms in al-Marawe’ah district in Hodeidah, destroying more than 100 houses, causing the citizens’ agricultural land swept away and damaging crops, as well as killing some livestock.
Acting Governor of Hodeidah Mohammed Ayash Qahim quickly directed action to avoid the scale of the disaster by providing the possibilities of making protective bumpers for the affected villages, which could be affected by the flow of water in Siham valley.
He called for providing urgent aid to those affected to manage their affairs in the early days and to lessen the effects of the disaster they are suffering from, stressing the continued inspection of the citizens’ conditions in the affected areas in order to face any emergency repercussions in light of the continuing rains and the flowing of floods.
Qahim called on local organizations and institutions and philanthropists to extend a helping hand to their brothers affected by the floods and provide the necessary assistance that will help them to overcome the difficult conditions left by the floods.
As part of efforts to respond to the disaster, the branch of the Supreme Council for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the province distributed housing materials to those affected by the floods in the district provided by Jil al-Bena Society for Humanitarian Development in the province, funded by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
