Humanitarian aid on verge of collapse in Yemen: UN

The United Nations said on Wednesday that humanitarian aid in Yemen is on the verge of collapse, indicating that it has received only 40 percent of the total pledges announced earlier this month.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Yemen, added in a report, that the international organization “has received only 558 million dollars, out of 1.35 billion dollars pledged by donors about a month ago to support the humanitarian response in Yemen.”

The OCHA’s report pointed out that “the tragedy of Yemen unfolds with the continued growth of humanitarian needs, coinciding with the depletion of funds of relief agencies to finance life-saving aid.”

The report warned that “aid in Yemen is on the verge of collapse unless donors fulfill their pledges immediately,” noting that nearly 80 percent of the population still needs humanitarian assistance and protection.

It explained that Yemen needs “more than $ 3.2 billion in humanitarian aid during the current year 2020”.

For the sixth year in a row, Yemen is witnessing a bloody aggression war that has led to one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world, according to the United Nations description.
