Coronavirus deaths in China rise to 3,136
The death toll from the new coronavirus in the country has risen to 3,136 after 17 new deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours, while confirmed infected cases have exceeded 80,754, and nearly 60,000 have recovered from treatment, Chinese authorities announced Tuesday.
“The State Health Committee today received data from 31 provinces, confirming that since the spread of the coronavirus in the country, 80,754 people have been infected, including 17,721 patients (including 4,794 in critical health condition) , and 3,136 people have died of the virus,” the National Health Commission of China said in a statement.
Over 59,897 people were discharged from hospitals after recovering, the statement added
According to the Health Commission, 19 new cases of the virus have been detected in the past 24 hours, 17 people have died, all in the Hubei region, the epicenter of the epidemic, and 1,297 cases have been cured after treatment.
Global cases of the new Coronavirus, which first appeared in central China at the end of last year, exceeded 110,000, with more than 3,800 deaths, but 62,000 were also recovered.
