Expert: Erdogan Blackmails the Europeans to Protect the Turkish Role in Syria
Dr. Wafik Ibrahim, expert in strategic affairs, says that the Turkish threat to open Turkey’s borders to the exit of refugees and migrants who want to cross its borders towards Europe, comes in the context of severe blackmail. Erdogan this time does not only want money, but also wants to protect the Turkish role in Syria.
“Thus in the entire Arab world, because he feels that there is a vibration of the Turkish role as a result of Russia abandoning it after it despaired of it and its procrastination and prevarication,” he added.
Ibrahim points out that after the last blow to the Turkish army, Erdogan felt that his fortunes in the Turkish interior began to diminish, and consequently further diminished, after it became clear to him that the United States, as well as Europe, supported him only verbally and in the media. For this reason today in his speech, he issued a warning to Europe by threatening to open borders to Syrian refugees, this is something that Europe fears because it impedes the social and political stability in it.
Mr Erdogan said that, as of Saturday morning, around 18,000 people had crossed into Greece. That claim was rejected by Athens. “This is simply not true,” said a government spokesman. In his speech he affirmed that Ankara “will not close the borders to immigration applicants through Turkey,” adding that “we have said that we will open the doors for refugees, they did not believe us, we opened the doors and now there are about 18 thousand refugees at the border gates and it is expected that their number will reach today To 25 thousand.”
