Coronavirus death cases in China rise to 2,870
China on Sunday announced that death toll of coronavirus in the country rose to 2,870 after 35 death cases were reported in the past 24 hours and 79,824 infected cases after new 573 cases were confirmed.
The Health Commission has received data from 31 provinces confirming that 79,824 people have been infected, and currently we have 35,329 patients, including 7,365 in critical health, 2,870 people died of the virus and 41,625 people have been discharged from hospitals after recovering,” the National Health Committee of China said in a statement.
The new coronavirus, which causes Covid-19 disease, according to the WHO designation, first appeared in late December 2019 in the Chinese city of Wuhan in a wild animal market, and then spread rapidly with a massive movement of citizens to spend the Lunar New Year holiday in January.
The coronavirus continues to spread outside China in more than 30 countries, causing dozens of deaths and more than 4,000 infections.
Earlier, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the “emerging coronavirus” as an epidemic and declared an “international health emergency”, and said that more than 80,000 cases had been reported across some 33 countries.
