The United Nations has announced the evacuation of more than 5,000 Somali refugees voluntarily to their homeland from Yemen since 2017.
UNHCR and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said they had helped 5,087 Somali refugees to return home from Yemen since 2017.
In a joint statement issued Thursday, the two UN agencies indicated that the latest boat carrying 145 Somali refugees has left the port of Aden and would arrive at the Somali port of Berbera Friday, December 13.
The voluntary returns are part of the UNHCR’s voluntary return assistance program in which the IOM is a partner.
