World Health Organization: 18 Million Yemenis Vulnerable, in Risk of Malaria

The World Health Organization (WHO) said in a tweet on Sunday that “more 18 million Yemenis live in areas at risk of malaria, while 10.8 million live in high-risk areas.

“In 2018 and 2019, our efforts continued to strengthen malaria interventions and avoid potential setbacks with the support of partners such as the World Bank and the State of Kuwait,” WHO explained.

During the past few weeks, the organization launched a spray campaign to combat mosquitoes carrying malaria and viral fevers in 59 districts in eight Yemeni governorates. According to the organization, the campaign aims to protect 1.5 million Yemenis and 265,763 homes through field teams of 2052 workers.

According to estimates of the United Nations about 20 million Yemenis need health care. A number of Yemeni governorates are witnessing widespread epidemics and viral fevers, leaving hundreds dead and thousands injured.
