UN says U.S., Britain, France complicit in war crimes in Yemen

The United Nations said in its report on Tuesday that Britain, U.S.and France might be complicit in war crimes in Yemen through arms sales and providing logistic support to the Saudi-led coalition.

The report accused the coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates of killing civilians in air strikes and deliberately pushing the Yemenis to brink the famine as a war tactic.

The UN investigators recommended that all states have to impose a ban on transfers of weapons to warring parties.

The UN report said that a secret list, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and officers and politicians facing war crimes charges sent by an independent commission to UN human rights organization.

The UN report is likely to be used as additional evidence for those calling on the British government to end arms sales to the Saudis for use in Yemen.

On Sunday, the Saudi-led military coalition waged airstrikes on a prison in Dhamar province, killing scores of people, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
