Transitional militias storm journalists’ homes in Aden, prevent them from working

The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate (YJS) has expressed concern over the increasing harassment of journalists and media outlets in the occupied city of Aden since the recent events in the city.

The YJS said in a statement issued at dawn on Tuesday: “It received a notification that the home of the journalist in the 14 October newspaper Ali Saleh al-Essa, who is currently outside Yemen, was raided by gunmen and ;tampering with its contents, documents and property.”

The YJS pointed out that it had received a communication that armed elements who follow the so-called Transitional Council in Aden pursue the journalist Ahmed Maher for his writings and opinions.

“In light of these tense situations, reports indicate that a number of journalists were prevented from working in the 14 October newspaper, which was controlled by the so-called Transitional Council, and to be satisfied with specific people,” read the statement.

Media workers and radio and television employees were also denied access to the radio and television buildings, and groups loyal to the so-called Transitional Council were barred from working in Saba agency branch in Aden.

The Journalists Syndicate condemned all violations of freedom of opinion and expression, expressing its rejection of such anti-press, anti-discriminatory, and freedom of opinion behaviors.
The Journalists’ Syndicate called on the authorities concerned to stop such practices and to deal positively with the press and media freedoms and to neutralize the press and journalists from conflicts.
