Elderly people die, dozens suffocate in Aden
At least two elderly people died in Attawahi and Serah areas of Aden province as a result of high temperatures and power outages, local sources reported on Wednesday.
Local sources indicated that the power outage lasted for more than 20 hours, causing deaths and suffocation among the elderly and the patients.
The sources stressed that the power outage during the increase of high temperature, humidity and lack of oxygen is a murder and attempted murder, calling for the prosecution of those responsible for the power outages.
Since the beginning of the summer, there have been repeated deaths of elderly people, infants and chronically ill patients due to “prolonged power outages” in Aden.
According to medical sources, “about 17 elderly deaths recorded in April and May as a result of power outages in Aden.”
Popular discontent in Aden and southern cities are growing over the deterioration of basic services for living, which citizens attribute to the “failure and corruption of the coalition-backed government”.
