Guterich reaffirms his confidence in special envoy to Yemen
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterich reaffirmed his confidence in his special envoy to Yemen Martin Griffith and his mission, stressing that he “will redouble his efforts and work in a balanced manner” in response to demands of exiled Hadi to change Griffith.
UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters that the Secretary-General “confirmed to Hedi that the Special Envoy would redouble his efforts to support the parties, to fulfill their commitments made in Stockholm and will do so in a balanced manner and support a lasting political solution to the conflict.”
“The United Nations commitment to the Stockholm Agreement stems from a deep desire to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people and to help deal with the humanitarian crisis,” Dujarric noted that the Secretary-General of the United Nations confirmed in his response to Hadi’s speech.
The exiled and emigrant in Saudi Arabia, Hadi, sent a letter on Thursday to the Secretary of the United Nations protesting what he described as “exceeded of the envoy Martin Griffith for his duties and dealing with the Houthis as a power parallel to legitimacy” and that is”beyond the Stockholm agreement.”
