Saudi Arabia says two of its oil tankers damaged in sabotage attacks

Saudi energy minister, Khalid Al- Falih has revealed that two Saudi oil tankers had been attacked early Sunday morning, at 6:00 AM, and suffered “significant damage”, while they were passing through the Gulf in economical territory water near UAE,  Akaz Newspaper reported on Monday.

According to the Saudi Newspapers, Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister subsequently confirmed that no human casualties or fuel leakage have been reported, but, the structure of the two ships was badly damaged.

“We affirm the shared responsibility of the international community to maintain the safety of Maritime Navigation and the security of oil tankers, in anticipation of the effects of energy markets and the seriousness of this on the global economy,” al-Falih added.

The media reported that powerful explosions rocked the emirate’s Fujairah port at dawn on Sunday, and reported that more than seven oil tankers were docked in the port of Fujairah.

Media sources said that the causes of the explosions have not yet been known.

On Sunday evening, the UAE Foreign Ministry announced that four commercial cargo ships had been vandalized near the country’s territorial waters, heading towards the east coast near the emirate of Fujairah and in the UAE’s maritime economic zone.
